WIDOWS & POVERTY RELIEF
In Kisumu and surrounding regions, widows often face extreme marginalization, economic hardship, and social isolation. Impact World Programs is dedicated to restoring their dignity and self-sufficiency through targeted poverty relief and empowerment initiatives.
Our holistic approach provides immediate relief (food, shelter, healthcare) while building long-term resilience via skills training, mental health support, and access to micro-finance. We believe that empowering a widow strengthens the entire community.
We run tailoring, beadwork, and agricultural training programs that enable widows to generate income. Many have started small businesses, gaining financial independence. Our partnerships with local markets ensure their products reach buyers, creating sustainable livelihoods.
So far, over 200 widows have completed training and are now supporting their families. We also provide seed capital and mentorship to help them thrive.
Many widows are caretakers of orphans and the elderly, often skipping meals to provide for others. Our monthly food distribution ensures families have access to nutritious food. We also provide hygiene kits and support for children's school fees.
During droughts or economic crises, we scale up relief efforts to prevent hunger and malnutrition among the most vulnerable households.
Loss and stigma can lead to deep trauma. We facilitate weekly support groups where widows share experiences, find solidarity, and heal together. Professional counselors help them navigate grief, while peer networks reduce isolation.
These groups have become a powerful force for advocacy, challenging harmful traditions like property disinheritance and child marriage.
We sponsor over 150 orphaned children of widows, providing school fees, uniforms, and mentorship to break the poverty cycle.
Through collective fishing and fish farming initiatives along Lake Victoria, widows gain sustainable livelihoods, access to markets, and food security.
